PAST EXHIBITIONS
A month-long residency / exhibition at a new gallery space.
The exhibition was a selection of my works and was titled:
AMBIGUITY
To give you a feel for the works in this collection, here's my Artist Statement for the exhibition:
I’m a Woy Woy artist making colorful, quirky, surreal and sometimes bold art.
Each work begins with a sense of a shape, element, or idea fragment. There is no end-result vision, only curiosity, openness and ‘what comes out’.
My expressions are drawing, and acrylics on canvas. I use chosen colours, firstly to achieve certain effects, and because I like them. I’m inspired by the masterful surrealist, Rene Magritte and by Giorgio de Chirico’s humorous, absurdist paintings.
In my work I explore ambiguity - which affords a looseness and freedom - and I challenge the notion that certainty is better. My depictions aren’t pre-conceived, often aren’t located in specific settings or well-defined backgrounds and my subjects are representational not hyper real. I paint to spark your curiosity, prompt your questions, and ignite your creative imaginings about what is happening in the expression you see.
I am learning to love Ambiguity
